What are my options for rental I am renting a car for one
month from Hertz. Their
insurance is very expensive
(at $25 per day, it adds $900
to my costs). I have already
asked my credit card company
if they offer auto insurance
for a rental car. Do you have
any suggestions on other
options for inusuring a rental
car for one month?
I do not own a car, so I do
not have any personal auto
insurance. This rental will be
in the United States.

With the rental company you have two options, take it or refuse it. Talk to your insurance agent about a rider which would cover any at fault accident you would have with a rental car for a month. They may have suggestions. |

Yes, alot of them now have a clause in the policy stating if you have no seatbelt on they are not liable....it sucks but they are doing it. A site I've recommended in the past would be... http://insurance.deal4-you.com Hope that helps. |

Will my car insurance rates go Have had a perfect driving
record for 20 years, last week
on my way to work, hit black
ice, and car overturned in the
ditch - car was a total loss.
Do you think my rates will
rise? No injuries or property
damage, just a totalled car
from the crash. Have been with
the same insurance company
with no previous claims the
past 10+ years.

First it depends on your state. If you are in NH, they can't surcharge you for a one car accident, even if you total the car. Then, it depends on your company. Some have first accident forgiveness after you have been with the same company more than 3 or 5 yrs. Some have first accident forgiveness up to a certain amount (like only up to $10,000, above that is chargable). Some don't have any first accident forgiveness. The best place to find out is your agent. |

Where can I find car insurance I've been without insurance
for almost a year now. I
canceled my old policy because
I do not drive my car anymore
and I'm selling it. So I
finally bought a new car, and
I am currently looking for
insurance. But I haven't had
any insurance the past year.
Where can I get insurance?

If you do not have to many points on your license, or another situation that would prevent you from acquiring insurance, than you should have no trouble. People who have not driven for years, for whatever reason can still buy insurance, as long as their license is in effect. (VALID). You can go on line to Geico, or one of the other mega insurance services. But I would recommend checking with your friends, family, co workers, for a referral to their insurance agent. Preferably a local insurance broker. They have more companies to write for, thus giving you a better choice, and better rates. |

How can you negotiate with car How can you negotiate with car
insurance agency after a wreck
that was caused by you if you
have no insurance to cover the
other driver? Are there any
legal ramifications?

If you caused an accident and had no insurance - the other driver will be able to file an uninsured motorist claim. Their insurance company will pay for all the things yours would have (if you have insurance). Then the other driver's insurance company will turn the matter over to their subrogation department. The Subrogation department will contact you about paying them back. Do not ignore them - they can have your drivers license suspended, sue you or turn you over to collections. However, the subrogation department will be willing to set up an interest free payment plan for you to repay them for all they paid their driver. Most likely they will want at least $100 per month - until the debt is paid in full. If you miss payments - they suspend your license, sue you or turn you over to collections. The other thing you can do - is see if the subro dept will accept a lesser lump sum. For example: you owe them $10,000 - they may be willing to take 7,000 if you pay it as a lump sum. They would rather get a little less all at once - than collect the full $10,000 - 100 dollars at a time. Can you dispute the amount they want? No - not really. They paid it - you owe it. ** not legal advice ** |
