I have a dog who is aggressive My german shorthaired pointer
is 11 months old and
incredibly sweet to humans and
dogs he meets, but if we take
him to a dog park and we throw
a tennis ball for him, he
snaps ans growls at the other
dogs if they come near him.
How do we change or correct
this behaviour?

He is being possessive of his toys. To correct this, start off by not bringing his toys to the dog park. When in your house, give him his toy, then take it away and give him a treat in return. Continue doing this while playing with him. It is good if you can get him really excited and still take the toy away without any growling. As you get better at this, start doing it outside the dog park, where the other dogs are at a distance. Give him the toy, take it away and give a treat. If he ever growls, then the toy and the treats go away and you ignore him. Wait half an hour or so, and try again. Eventually, you can work your way up to having him and another dog under a controlled situation (both on leash with owners present...best with a friend or family members dog). Give your dog the toy, then take it away and give him a treat, then give the other dog your dogs toy while feeding your dog treats. When you are able to do this with less or with no treats, then you are ready to try it again in the dog park. Good luck! |

Does anyone know of any parks I know about Point Isabel, and

There is Hardy Dog park in Oakland: http://www.oaklandnet.com/park s/parks/hardydog.asp and there is a list here that has some others in nearby cities (scroll down about halfway) http://www.dogfriendly.com/ser ver/travel/uscities/guides/w/c ities/wonlinecityCAOakland_-_E ast_Bay.shtml And you might join up with the Oakland Dog Owners Group http://www.odogparks.org/ they list some parks and trails for dogs on their site and are working to get more dog parks. |

What are some good parks on Does anyone have any
recommendations for parks to
take dogs to on Lake Travis
and the Lakes North of there?
Preferrably a beach type
setting where we can hang out
too.
We have a Labrador if that
helps. Thanks for any
recommendations.

I AM TRYING TO LOCATE A PUPPY PARK NEAR MY HOME. I LIVE IN PARK FOREST, ILLINOIS. I REALLY WOULD LIKE TO SOCIALIZE HIM BEFORE HE GETS TOO OLD.
